What are the benefits of hardwood flooring?

Hardwood flooring is popular, durable and aesthetically pleasing. It comes in a variety of natural color variations and grain patterns. Hardwood floors are easy to clean and ideal for allergy sufferers because they tend not to attract allergens. Also, many hardwood floors last for decades.

What types of hardwood floors are available?

How is a hardwood floor installed?

There are three ways to install a wood floor: glue down, nail (or staple) down or floating. Glue down or floating can be used if the subfloor is a concrete slab. If the subfloor is wood, all three methods can be considered.

How do I acclimate my hardwood floor?

It’s best to allow the flooring acclimate for at least 24 hours. This means to lay the wood flat in open boxes in the room where the flooring is to be installed.

What is the best way to clean my hardwood floors?

The best way to maintain your hardwood floor is to sweep or vacuum the floors regularly. A Swiffer or similar type dry mop also works well on hardwood floors. Avoid excessive moisture and do not use any wax based cleaners.

What are the different moldings?

  • A quarter round molding hides the expansion gap around walls during left installation.
  • T molding is used as a threshold in doorways. It is also used or as a transition strip where the hardwood flooring meets similar height floor or carpet and to change the direction of the floor.
  • Stairnose molding covers the front edge of a stair step or tread.
  • Stairtread molding is one-piece that is used to cover the structural stair tread.
  • Reducer molding transitions the height of the sub-floor to the hardwood floor.
